Rick Howard

Rick Howard is a Canada-born skateboarder who now resides in California. He is considered to been credited with helping to advance switch skateboarding to new levels in the 1990s.

He began his skateboarding career skating for Blockhead Skateboards (where he turned pro), and Gullwing Trucks. He quit Blockhead and skated for Plan B Skateboards in 1991 and during his time with Plan B, he left Gullwing and switched to Independent Trucks. His part in the second Plan B video, "Virtual Reality", is well-known for his advancement of switchstance skating and checked short sleeved shirts. Rick Howard is one of the most influential skateboarders of all time, and will always be remembered as a legend, and the creator of girl, lakai, and the owner of the crailtap distribution company. He quit Plan B and formed a new company named Girl Skateboards with Spike Jonze, Mike Carroll, and Megan Baltimore in 1993.[1] Howard was sponsored by DC Shoes, where he had a signature model shoe. He left DC to form his own shoe company with Mike Carroll, Lakai Footwear.[2][3]

He owns the Crailtap distribution company, which in turn owns such companies as Royal Trucks and Chocolate Skateboards.[4]

The fakie frontside big spin heelflip is named the Rick flip after him, although it is not known whether he invented it or not.[5]

Howard has had some serious injuries such as a torn ACL and a shattered shoulder but has recovered from both and excelled in skateboarding.
